My Glamulet DIY Charm: The Story of Our Love

02/04/16

This post contains affiliate links. I was also compensated this bracelet and charm set in exchange for my review. You know me – I’m pretty picky about jewelry having worked in a jewelry repair shop for 2 years, so for me to put my stamp of approval on something, you know it’s legit.

I fell in love with the charms on the Glamulet website several months ago. The fact that they are made of sterling silver was a big selling point for me, but what really got my attention was that their charms are truly unique and stunning. I could go crazy buying their charms and use them to carry a story on my wrist. Well today, I’m sharing the love and presenting to you the bracelet I put together for Valentine’s Day.

My DIY Charm

The real highlight of my bracelet (to me anyways) is the DIY Heart-Shaped Charm featuring a picture of Jeremy and I. Aren’t we adorable!? I know. I chose a heart because while there are other shapes for you to choose from, I wanted my bracelet to be all about our love for one another.

I chose that particular picture for a couple of reasons: If I’m being honest, it’s the picture of us that really fit best in the charm. But more importantly, it’s a picture that isn’t tied to anything or any event in particular – it’s just us being us and those are the moments I cherish the most in our relationship.

Our Story

Jeremy and I met online. I know… it’s kind of cliche, but I don’t really know how else to meet people these days. Bars? No thank you. But our story goes back a lot further than our first date and we wouldn’t realize it until well after a year into our relationship.

A few years ago, I was looking to meet people – friends, a boyfriend, anything. I didn’t know a lot of people and I wanted to try to expand my circle of friends (because it seems like everyone I know, knows everyone else). I placed an ad on Craigslist looking for Doctor Who fans and other geekery. Jeremy was one of many men who answered the ad and we chatted briefly.

The ad got overwhelming. I had hundreds of responses. My inbox was full and I couldn’t keep up with it. Eventually, I took down the ad and simply tried to carry conversation with the people who had responded to it. Most of the emails I received got deleted without reply, because… Ew. Some conversations simply fizzled out. A few people became friends to this day and I dated one in particular who is now my best friend.

Unfortunately, Jeremy is one of those whose conversation fizzled out. He had replied to my ad seeking a romantic partner. He was cute and seemed sweet… but also sounded like he was in a not so great place in life. I had my own share of problems and couldn’t see myself starting a relationship with someone who was separated from his wife (been there, done that) and living with his brother. It just sounded too messy and the conversation ended. Yes, I realize that I sound shallow, but I didn’t want to get involved in that.

Jeremy
Fast forward a couple of years and Jeremy started contacting me on an online dating site. He was adorable, charming, sounded like he had his life together and since I’d never seen his picture before, I had no idea that he was even the same guy!

We agreed to our first date. He picked me up from where I was working at the time, drove me home so I could change clothes, and we went to this overly expensive Italian restaurant which we can look back on now and laugh about… because it sucked. He hasn’t learned his lesson from that first date and he still orders stuffed mushrooms from restaurants we go to, knowing fully well that mine are better.

I don’t know what happened between us on that date, but we just sort of never let go. There wasn’t even anything specific about him that made me interested. It’s like my soul just knew he was supposed to be my someone. Here we are, almost 2 years, 3 stupid cats and an almost finished house later…

KimiAndJeremy700Christmas
Back in September, we started working on the paperwork for our home loan. I had emailed some documents to Jeremy and he did a search for ‘Kimi’ in his email one day. That’s when he came across the very old email exchanges from the Craigslist ad. Turned out that he too had forgotten that we ever spoke and we both had a great laugh as he read aloud the conversations we’d had.

We like to think that we were meant to be together, but that it just wasn’t quite yet our time. We both had things in our lives to work on before we could be the awesome couple that we are today. I don’t think we’d be quite as happy as we are if we’d tried to date back then because the people and relationships we experienced in between really gave us perspective and have helped us to appreciate and love one another that much more.

Despite that I have been married twice, divorced and widowed, I can say without hesitation that Jeremy is the love of my life. He’s always been so supportive and understanding. He has stood by me even when I felt like he shouldn’t. He drives me crazy some days, but he has literally made me laugh at least once every day that we’ve been together.

May 4, 2014 is the day my world turned right-side up.

My Other Charms

I’ll be honest and tell you that I didn’t quite get the charms I was wanting the most either because they were out of stock, or not available to me for purposes of this post. But the ones I did get are truly gorgeous and I think you’ll agree – they look quite fab on me.

Glamulet DIY Valentine's Day Charm Bracelet
The wedding ring set charm cracks me up. I chose it because I hope one day that Jeremy and I will get married. I know, I know… if you have been friends with me for a couple of years, then you’re probably gasping at the thought of me getting remarried. Until I met Jeremy, I was absolutely anti-remarriage. Is that even a word?

But the truth is, I’m wildly in love with that man. I’ve never been with someone who literally makes me fall in love with them again every day. There’s always something – either an action or words spoken that make me stop and think to myself “Geez… I freaking love you.”

That’s why I made this bracelet all about us and the love we have for one another. I’d hoped to get my hands on some other charms that I felt were really reflective of us, like this super cute House charm. It’s one of several I’m going to have to order and buy because I’m really digging my new bracelet. But the ones I did receive, really do tell a story – all about us and how much we’re really in love. Perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Thank you! I actually really liked how it turned out. I have a couple of other beads to put on it and I love that I can go buy some geeky charms too to mix in. I’m pretty excited! :D

Aw you two are so darn cute! Lovely bracelet as well. And what you said about continually falling in love…I so get that. I love that even after 8 years and a kiddo, I still look at my guy and fall in love, and remember why I love him so much. Even on those days when I want to punch him in the face. :D

Isn't it nice to be able to fall in love over and over like that? It's so different from any other relationship I've ever had. :)

Timing is everything. I’m such a believer in that. Next week I’m planning to share the story about how Chris and I met. It’s very definitely a perfect timing situation, too.
