I was having a really good week. There’s a lot of life changes that I am just on the cusp of and I was excited today to come to my blog and tell you all about them. And then someone had to go and ruin it completely. They have me so angry and so upset that all of my new found inspiration is gone… just destroyed.
Regardless, I do have good news. I have kept pretty hush, hush about the fact that I was seeking new employment – not to replace my current job, but in addition to. I have wanted to do this for a long time but I was worried about carrying the burden of two jobs. More than that, I was worried about finding a job that would work around my current schedule because my hours are pretty fluid at the moment and fitting another job in would be difficult.
I heard through the grapevine that my local Hot Topic may be seeking a part time assistant manager. Since my current job has made it exceptionally crystal clear that they never intend to promote me nor give me a raise, I feel it’s important to find another way to climb the management ladder. I have all of the experience I need in order to be an assistant manager, and it’s time I found a place to stretch my legs.
Well Hot Topic loved my resume and to quote, the answers to my application questions were “perfect”. Unfortunately, I do not have management experience on paper. While I actually have the know-how, I have never held a management title – which is incredibly frustrating for me. Because of that, I can’t be immediately brought in as assistant manager, but there is the potential for me to move up and become one.
I expected to get interviewed at some point – I was told they’d call me in for a chat soon. Well yesterday, I was asked to pop in. It was super informal, which I loved. There was no interview – instead, we talked about my current work schedule to see if they could work around it. Answer being… YES! So I have officially been welcomed to the Hot Topic family and I am really, really excited about it.
I know, I know… It’s Hot Topic. It’s not a glamorous job and the pay probably isn’t stellar. But, I have wanted to work at Hot Topic since I was a teenager. I love what I do currently, and customer service is definitely my forte’. It just… it doesn’t allow me to be me as much as I’d like. I feel very boxed in and I want the opportunity to grow as a person – professionally and subjectively.
I love the company Hot Topic has grown into. It’s all very different than it was 10+ years ago when I first found myself in there (haha I had such a funny “goth” phase). It caters to everything I love in fashion and fandom. I can’t wait to embrace that and share it with others.
Speaking of things I love sharing with others…
Did you know that Heather @ The Nerdy Fox recently celebrated her 1 Year Blogiversary!? I am so excited for her and if you haven’t checked out her blog yet, you should. Heather is such a delight – totally adorable and sweet. She’s definitely one of my BBFs (Best Blogger Friends!).
