Adult coloring books are all the rage these days. It’s a known scientific fact that coloring can help sharpen the mind, reduce stress & depression, and improve your hand/eye coordination. Personally, I’ve been wanting to buy one for myself for quite some time, but I couldn’t settle on which to start with – they all seemed fun!

If you’re a geek like me, maybe you don’t want to stick to a particular fandom. Maybe you want an adult coloring book that caters to general geekery. Well feast your eyes on this cuteness!

The Happy Geeks Coloring Book
This is the Happy Geek’s Coloring Book which features over 30 single pages of geek inspired illustrations perfect for coloring and leveling up your creativity! This coloring book was illustrated by Colleen Palmer and Jaleh Afshar – both residents of good ole Salt Lake City, Utah!

I’m really enjoying this coloring book because I feel like there’s something in it for everyone. It’s a broader book – so it’s covering geeky topics like console games, cosplay, tabletop games, kawaii, anime, fantasy, etc. The pictures are interesting because some are more cartoonish while others are drawn more realistically. Seriously, there’s really a little bit of everything in here!

Check out some of the fun I’ve had…

The Happy Geeks Coloring Book Game Controllers Illustration
I decided to take out this sheet and scan it into my computer so I could play around with it since I definitely didn’t have the right colors for this picture. I had a great time coloring it digitally, which I think is a fun alternative to regular coloring (even if it does sort of defeat the purpose).

I wanted to do something sort of nostalgic, so I colored the game controllers their traditional colors (can you guess which controller is for what system?) and then added a sepia filter to make it look more aged. It was a lot of fun to work with!

Nostalgic Game Controllers

This other picture just made me giggle when I saw it. It’s SO cute. But unfortunately, I’m again running into the issue that I don’t have the right colors for everything in the picture. I definitely need to invest in some color pencils.

IMPORTANT NOTES
I strongly suggest using crayons or color pencils with this book. I purchased some no-bleed Crayola markers to use with it and found that the paper slightly buckles when it gets the slightest bit damp – similar to what happens when you paint with watercolors on the wrong type of paper. So keep that in mind if you purchase this coloring book.

There are no perforated edges for tearing out the pages. I LOVE that the pages are in singles, so there isn’t a design front and back. It means you can take out a picture, color and keep it without sacrificing a design you might like on the back. But taking the pages out is a little tricky. I used an exacto-knife and lightly ran it down the edge of the page until it came loose, then trimmed any imperfect edges with some scissors.

All things said, I love my new geeky coloring book and I’m so glad to have it. I foresee me scanning in more of the images for digital coloring and framing to decorate my office with!

This looks so cute. I love colouring books, and have a few of the more intricate ones but something more simple like this would be great when I don’t have the focus to colour in so many tiny details.

There are a few more detailed pictures in the book, but yes… mostly more simple ones like the ones I showed. They are really cute!

Right!? It’s the cutest. I kind of wish I’d scanned it before I colored on it. I’m going to have to edit it and play with it. :D

I never even knew this existed! Now I must buy one! It is so cute! I have a few previously owned adult coloring books, but found that I got bored of them so easily because of to much detail for my attention span to handle. This seems way more up my ally! Thanks for the share Kimi!

That is super cute. I love that it has multi geek appeal. I have a couple of colouring books and they are so relaxing! I might have to invest in this one too… You know for my brain health…. ;)

Ahhh this book is so cute! I was given a coloring book for Christmas, and it is so therapeutic to use. I’m loving the idea of a geeky one, though!

I have two adult coloring books and I really need to remember to grab them before watching a movie or something!
