This IS The Spoiler Free Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review You’re Looking For

12/23/15

Maybe you just haven’t had time off yet for going to the movies to see the new Star Wars movie. I get it… ex-retail employee here! Perhaps you’re strapped for cash and you can’t see dishing out $20+ for a movie and some stale popcorn right now. Or maybe you’re like a lot of other Star Wars fans: You’re scared the movie isn’t any good, won’t live up to its hype, or it’s going to hurt you in ways only Episodes I, II, and III can.

It’s okay. Rest assured that this completely spoiler free review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will bring you back from the Dark Side and give you New Hope.

This is NOT a remake

Let’s start with that because it seems to be the big, touchy subject right here. Since Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise and threw out some of what we otherwise accept as cannon, some fans have been fearful of some sort of Star Wars reboot by way of remaking the series entirely. I promise you, they have done no such thing.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (from here on out known as SW:TFA) is a continuation of the movies and unlike some Star Wars movies… it’s presented in the right order. There’s no remake to be seen here. Expect an original movie going into this.

It Lives Up to the Hype

All of your friends coming home from the movies all “OMG! It was so good!” Yeah, they mean it. It was good. Like, so good that I’m willing to spend more money to go watch it again. Hey, Disney made over $250 million in one weekend. That’s right – a movie that cost them $200 million to make and they made a profit in a single weekend. We can’t all be wrong here.

It’s Better in 2D

I personally cannot see 3D because I’m blind in one eye, but this opinion isn’t biased. Several of my friends went to see this movie in 3D and to them, something felt off about the movie – particularly light saber scenes. After watching again in 2D (yes, some of them have already seen it again) I’ve been told it’s actually much better in its standard, 2D format.

There you go – a good way to cut down on the cost of the movie. You can see SW:TFA in 2D and not feel like a bad Star Wars fan. Also, go see it as a matinee because it’s cheaper and less crowded.

Not gonna lie tho… the 3D glasses you get look so freaking cool. I kind of want to have them for no reason other than to say that I do.

That Lightsaber Tho…

Make all the jokes you want. The lightsaber used by Kylo Ren is actually really cool and serves purpose. Like, I kind of wish I had one. You will too. Like you, I thought it was weird too from all of the pictures and the trailers. What the hell is that thing and why!? Simma down now child. It’ll all be okay.

BB-8 is Adorable

I worry when a franchise chooses to push a character on people. It so often feels like a let down later. I was worried that BB-8 wouldn’t live up to his hype. Oh, but he does. He’s the cutest fricken thing. You will love him and get a kick out of him!

In Conclusion

It was worth it. I laughed. I cried. I cheered. I grimaced. It was everything I could have hoped for. Granted, I’m not your die-hard Star Wars fan. I like it, but I’ve never considered it to be part of my ever-growing list of Fandoms.

Having said that, the movie did exactly what it was meant to do: It pleased long-time Star Wars fans while helping to bring in new blood. I left the theater excitedly asking Jeremy questions so that I could know more about back stories. I honestly believe that that’s indication of a job well done by Disney.

Did you enjoy the movie? Please… No spoilers! I am dedicated to making this a completely spoiler-free review for everyone to enjoy.

I really really enjoyed the movie. I think it’s something fans and non- fans will love and even if you have any real Star Wars knowledge you can jump into this movie. I want the 3D glasses so bad even though 3D movies make me nauseous :p

Exactly what I loved about it – because everyone at least has a little knowledge about Star Wars. If you know anything at all, the new movie was easy to get into. I really enjoyed it.

I’ve seen every one of the Star Wars movies in the theater during their very first run. (Okay, so I was 6 months old when the very first one came out, but still…) This definitely lives up to the hype. I loved it and can’t wait to see it again.
