Happy Wednesday! No, seriously… a VERY happy Wednesday! It’s been an excellent week and I am thrilled to share a success with you! I hope your week was as awesome as mine. This day is usually reserved for a Wednesday Wrap Up, but it’s a day of momentous occasion and that wrap up will just have to wait its turn!
In case you have missed me absolutely gushing about it anywhere and everywhere possible and to anyone I think will even listen, I ordered my new laptop on Sunday! There was kind of a long road to getting it, starting with funding.
I opened my paycheck Sunday afternoon to discover what to me is a large paycheck. Confused, I thought my boss had forgotten to deduct money that I pay out of every check. “That’s commission – for that $1,200 sale you did and for February”, my manager told me. Wow! I really needed that extra money. I have more money that I can remember having in a very, very long time – and it’s still not really all that much to be honest.
Jeremy offered to outright buy a laptop for me. I declined. I wanted to find a way to raise the money, save the money, somehow get the money together myself. I tried. I worked hard and I even managed to not buy any nail polish (although I did slip up and buy a Tate Langdon figurine – don’t judge me) and I saved what’s a LOT of money for me to put aside from a paycheck. It was hard, but I managed it.
My state tax return arrived and that helped a lot. Between the commission check, what I had already saved and my return, I managed to get most of the money together for the laptop. If I spent every dime I had, I could have outright bought it myself. Of course, that would be silly because then I couldn’t eat for 2 weeks, my phone bill would go unpaid and I would have no way to work.
I finally broke down and asked for Jeremy to help me. I fully intend to continue paying him back for that help, but asking for it was a big deal to me. He agreed to help and Sunday, we went to Best Buy in hopes of having them order the laptop to be delivered to the store. Apparently they couldn’t do that for whatever reason, but they could send it to my apartment.
I didn’t want it sent here. We have had so many problems with the mail. It’s not even the post office that’s been an issue exactly… but the leasing office was claiming they didn’t have my packages when they in fact did. The idea of having a $800 laptop delivered here was terrifying. But alas, there wasn’t really any other way.
We ordered the laptop and much to my surprise, the nice young man who helped us out claimed I would have it delivered on Wednesday, March 18th (that’s today). That’s uncommonly fast. I mean, this was Sunday night that I was placing this order and I’m supposed to expect it sometime Wednesday!? Seemed unreal but it made me very excited to know that I would home when the delivery was to be made.
We went home that evening, expecting to receive a confirmation email (which I did get), followed by another email with tracking information once the laptop had been shipped. I realized around 1am on Monday morning that it hadn’t gotten the tracking info and I started to wonder why not.
I am exactly the customer I hate dealing with. I am one of those “Oh I’m just checking in” people. I get worried and impatient. I realize this and I am so, so sorry for it. But I also had this little voice nagging me, saying that I had to contact Best Buy and make sure that everything was good and that I was still getting my laptop when they claimed I would.
I emailed Best Buy first because it wasn’t like super Oh Em Gee important and I figured I’d be able to check my email periodically throughout my day at work anyways. But soon as I’d finished the email and sent it, I noticed that the customer service chat line was still open. I opened it and chatted with someone who told me that according to his records, I wouldn’t be receiving my laptop until April 7th.
THREE WEEKS AWAY.
I was understandably upset. Not angry… but very sad and disappointed. I had been so excited. The representative encouraged me to call corporate in the morning and see what could be done for me. Between then and the phone call I would make as soon as the phone lines were open at 8am, I received two different email correspondences in response to my concerns – both saying my new laptop wouldn’t arrive until April 7th.
When I called in the morning, I spoke to a very nice lady who wanted so badly to help me, but couldn’t give me any more information other than what she was seeing – again, April 7th. She suggested that I call back after 10am, when my local Best Buy would be open so that they could communicate back and forth to see what had happened and what we could do. When I called back I spoke to one more gentleman who told me that the computer says April 7th, but that he didn’t understand why…
There was a shipping label created and a tracking number available. They were just waiting for UPS to pick up the package. I have no idea why no one else could tell me that – although everyone was very nice and they did seemingly try to help me.
And so, to make an already far too long story short, I finally received my new laptop today! It did arrive and it’s really real.
How freaking cute is my desktop!? I know, right? I’m so in love with my new HP Envy TouchSmart Laptop. It’ll take a little bit of getting used to because it’s a touch screen. I use one at work for certain things, and I imagine I will eventually do the same with this one as well. I am typing this sentence with the touch screen keyboard and it’s really hard.
So have you ever ordered anything from Best Buy? I normally don’t have any issues with them but I typically purchase directly from the store. This post is in no way sponsored nor endorsed by Best Buy, HP or their affiliates. I have not been compensated in any way for my opinion.
