After receiving my first Ipsy bag last month and it being such a success in my mind, I was really excited to receive my March Glam Bag! I um, may have cheated a bit and found out from their beautiful new website what I would be receiving vs. what other products could have been sent to me.
I’m mostly happy with the products I got. I realize it can’t always be a total hit – sometimes, something just isn’t your thing. I do wish I’d gotten that brow highlighting pencil. I’d really, really like to try one. But alas, I did otherwise get some nice stuff. And for $10 – who can really complain!?
NYX Cosmetics – Butter Lipstick in “Hunk”
This is totally not my color. I have a weird, very small mouth. Dark colors just don’t look right on me because they draw too much attention to my mouth shape. Nudes and pastels… I can rock those just fine. So while this plum colored “Butter Lipstick” by Nyx (The color is called Hunk) is beautiful, it’s just not for me.
The upside is that it’s easily one of my favorite lipstick formulas. I’ve never been a huge fan of lipstick in general because I find most of them to be dry or cakey (is that even a word?). I’ve always preferred tinted balms. But this… it felt really nice. It applied easily and it made my lips feel hydrated and not heavy. I wish I received one of the lighter shades – I’d have totally praised them far more.
Crown Brush- Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush
I’m excited to be adding makeup brushes to my collection. I’m still somewhat new to them. I love the small side of this eye shadow brush. It’s a great detail brush, while still being soft enough for blending.
I have a very hooded eyelid, so the larger side of the brush is just too large for me. I need a lot more control over my eye shadow tools so that I don’t emphasize the wrong parts of my eyelid. But overall, the brush seems sturdy, well-made and I look forward to using it more.
Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Eye Duo in “Apricot Glow”
I can’t decide how I feel about this eye shadow set. It’s fair to call it “apricot” I guess. On the one hand, it seems a little more pink in color in person… until you use it. Then yes, on my skin it appears more apricot in color. I just don’t know if this goes well with my skin tone.
The formula is fantastic in terms of pigmentation and usability. It glides on well, blends well and stood up to a full day of work where I often use a steamer. But, dare I say it may be too shimmery? I feel like if it were just a bit less on that shimmery side, I’d like it so much more. I totally get that the point is for it to create that glowing, dewy look so many of us crave. I just think it’s a little over the top.
Coolway – Glow Oil Treatment
My hair hates a lot of product in general. I have a greasy hair type and an angry scalp. For those reasons, I was extremely unsure about this product. I know, I know. Oils are actually very good for you – especially if your body is already producing too much of it. I know using oils can help balance things out. But when it comes to my hair… it generally hates it. That’s why I was hesitant about this product.
What a tiny bottle this is. I assume this is sample sized, despite it saying to only use a dime’s worth. I pored the thick oil into my hand, rubbed them and then worked it through my short, pixie hair cut. That dime sized amount ended up being more than enough to distribute fairly through my locks.
My hair didn’t feel greasy or weighed down at all. My hair felt soft, hydrated but not gross by the end of the day like I was expecting. I would definitely consider trying this product further and possibly even buying it – especially for the winter months when my hair needs a little love.
skyn ICELAND – Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
This product prompted me to check my Ipsy preferences. Why did I get another under eye treatment? Apparently I had it selected that I wanted to receive such products. Well, I don’t. Blah. I received two of these in my glam bag this month.
This is an interesting product. I won’t deny that they felt nice – cool and soothing. Their purpose was to reduce puffiness. Well, I don’t have any under eye puffiness and I am happy to say that I did not need this product. Do they make these for my big butt? I could use it there perhaps…
