It’s hard to believe that as I write this, our boys are already 7 months old. Yes, 7 months. I am kind of a bad Meowmie, has the dumb and can’t math because I was convinced the boys were turning 6 months old in February. Bruce and Oliver actually turned 6 months old in mid December while they will have been apart of our family for 6 months in February. Oops.
These cats… oh yes, they are no longer kitties. They are crazy. Every day is full of me fussing at them for being too rough with one another, yelling at them to slow down as if they are going to listen, searching high and low for the spray bottle.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So what have Bruce & Oliver been up to?
Back in September, the boys celebrated being 3 months old. They had the sweet fluffy faces of kittens still. Even then, I couldn’t believe how much they had grown. I could finally tell them apart because they had very different facial features and body types.
In October, Bruce & Oliver got to experience their first pumpkins! You might recognize these pictures as they have become rather iconic around here and across a few blogs in the form of ads. Oliver is often featured on my ads and sometimes the boys together.
I wanted so badly to take pictures of them in their little bow ties together, sitting with their pumpkins. Never gonna happen. I’m lucky I got these pictures…
I didn’t learn my lesson when Christmas time came. I had grand aspirations of making the boys the focus of our Christmas cards. I always wanted to be one of those people… the ones that make their own holiday cards and print them out. I know better for next year to plan way, way in advance. The boys did make their way to the cover of our Christmas card, but it wasn’t in the cute Santa outfit or plaid jammies I’d bought for them to wear.
The Boys went to the vet for the first time with us in early December. They both received a clean bill of health and had a blast playing with toys in the vet’s office. They still play with these ridiculous cheap mouse toy things they got there. They carry them around and despite all of the lovely toys we got for them for Christmas, these ratty little fuzz things are their favorite.
At the beginning of this month, the boys went back to the Vet and got the snip snip. You’d never know it because they are as rambunctious as ever. Whoever said that the would slow down and be less rough, totally lied and has never met these two!
We got them an automatic feeder. They were a bit obsessed with eating everything in their little bowls as soon as we filled them and kept throwing up all over the apartment (anyone have any idea how I can remove red food coloring out of tan carpet?). We switched their food – no more icky food coloring. And the automatic feeder has helped a lot.
Who knew that our adventurous little kitty who was first to leave the carrier to explore our apartment would become our quiet, sweet boy? Bruce tends to keep to himself. He isn’t huge on snuggles. He’ll let you know if he wants them, but usually he just wants to be around you instead. At night, Bruce is sometimes found on my pillow, asleep behind me or sometimes at the foot of the bed. From time to time, he’ll want to be under the covers if it’s too cold.
Unless he’s mucking about with his brother, Bruce is typically a quiet and easy going kind of cat. He can play as rough as his brother and is known to get in trouble from time to time.
Oliver has become the dominant cat. He’s first to get rowdy and is usually the one in trouble. He has a bit of a growling problem. He doesn’t like for anyone – especially Bruce – to look at him while he’s playing with one of the mouse toys.
Strangely enough, he’s also a huge Momma’s boy. He loves to be pet and held. He’s often found in Jeremy’s lap while he’s playing video games. But don’t let his love for Jeremy fool you. He is extremely jealous of both Bruce and especially Jeremy at bed time. He wants to be in between us, getting all the snuggles. He often sucks his paw and kneads me with the other in order to pacify himself at bedtime. He’s the reason the boys sometimes get kicked out of the bedroom – so Meowmie can get some sleep and not have cats all over her!
And finally, some of my favorite pictures from the last few months!
