In addition to the goals I will be making for myself every month, I want to choose a word to stick with me for the year. This word is meant to help guild my choices and actions.
This year, my word is Progress.
[n. prog-res, -ruh s or, esp. British, proh-gres; v. pruh-gres]
a movement toward a goal or to a further or higher stage
So why Progress and what does it mean to me?
It’s simple. I want all of my actions this year to have meaning. I want to take steps towards a better life. Everything I do should be for the sake of making that happen. Whether that be something having to do with my financial goals, career, managing to take down the Christmas tree or finally organizing the spare bedroom – so long as I am moving forward and making progress, I’ll be happy.
I’ve learned that life gets really overwhelming when you look at everything as a big chunk of things. This year, I’m breaking them down little by little and completing small goals to make the bigger picture happen. Progress.
Of course I have larger “5 year plan” type goals… but they seem incredibly daunting when you look at them as a whole. It’s sort of like being an ant, staring up at an oak tree you need to climb. It seems overwhelmingly impossible. But… if I could just start climbing that trunk, day by day I will make my way towards reaching that first branch. Progress.
Have you ever chosen a word for your year? What would you pick?
