This is a really tough prompt for me because I don’t have any childhood pictures of myself to share involving Christmas. Not that I didn’t have fabulous holidays growing up… I just don’t own any physical (or digital) copies of many pictures of me as a child. My parents have all of those.
I didn’t get very many holidays with Hailey. I also have very, very few pictures of us together because I was usually the one holding the camera. Fortunately, I do have a picture from her first Christmas.
You can tell I was a new Mom. Look at me… the exhaustion in my face. My hair is a mess. I look happy, but totally worn out. Hailey is but a month old in this picture. She’s still on the preemie side and her little Christmas outfit barely fits her correctly. But gosh… she looked adorable.
This picture was taken during one of the last times my family and I were in contact and got along. And let’s face it… it was kind of all crap. We were all just putting on a good face and pretending. But still, I had my family.
What makes this picture special to me is that like I said, I have so very few pictures of me actually with my daughter. I’m really glad that as horrible as I think I look in the picture, I still got this one taken and kept it. It’s funny all of the pictures we take and discard because we don’t like the way they looked. Imagine if you lost all of the pictures of you with your child and somehow all you’d be able to recover were the ones you digitally threw in the recycling bin. Imagine how precious they’d become…
