If you’re even a little bit geeky, you’ve probably seen an advertisement for this thing called Loot Crate. And if you’re like me, you saw it dozens of times but kind of ignored it because you didn’t really ‘get it’ and you didn’t need any more ads to entice you into spending money. So in case you’ve never clicked on those ads or you even if you have and you still don’t ‘get it’, I’m here to educate. Kimi to the rescue!
So what exactly is Loot Crate?
Essentially, it’s a geek/gamer subscription service. Every month, Loot Crate has a theme and for about $20 USD (that includes the shipping!) they send you a box full of geeky gifts from t-shirts to themed comics, collectible figurines, books and more. For your $20, you get at least $40 worth of “gear”, if not much more. Past Loot Crate themes convinced me that I should try it out…
So how did my first Loot Crate fare?
For full discolsure purposes, I’m going to be honest here and tell you that I am not ‘Super OMG excited’ about my first Loot Crate. That said, it was still worth the money and I will be trying it out again. Just take the journey with me for a second, okay?
October’s Loot Crate theme is ‘FEAR’ which is pretty appropriate given that it will soon be Halloween. Most of the items I received were related to the TV show The Walking Dead. While I really enjoy the show, I’m not particularly into gore, or collecting gore related items. That made for a sad Kimi today when I opened up my box.
So what was in it exactly? Well if you don’t want it spoiled for you, stop reading right now! Seriously, there be pictures here y’all.
October Loot Crate Items:

The values below are an estimation based on traditional costs of similar types of items. Some of these items are Loot Crate exclusives and cannot actually be purchased elsewhere, while some are otherwise available – particularly on Amazon and eBay.
Death By Kitten T-Shirt – $18
My favorite item in the box. It’s a soft, black t-shirt featuring negative images of kitties to form a skull. I find it amusing. I’m a bigger girl and so I selected a men’s XXXL with the thought in mind that my boyfriend and I are sharing the subscription and we may get a t-shirt he would like to be able to wear as well.
I find the shirt to be somewhat form-fitting and not like other men’s t-shirts I own. I’m not sure that it would fit my boyfriend comfortably. Good thing I guess, since it’s MINE! Muahahaha.
I’m basing the price off of similiar prints that can be found by JSalvador in his Etsy shop SuperEmoFriends. The print is cute and if I ever manage to create a much wanted geek/gamer room, I might consider hanging it on a wall somewhere.
I’ve never seen Sharknado. I don’t participate in the whole shark week thing either, so I don’t get the appeal of the book. I will say, it’s a nice looking book so there’s that.
Dead Rising 3 Pen – $8.99
I don’t know what Dead Rising 3 is but according to Jeremy, it’s some sort of video game. Alrighty. I had NO idea this was a pen. It came in this super well packaged box and when I opened it, I just stared and inspected it, trying to figure out what it was. Like I mentioned, I don’t collect gore type items, but it’s still kind of a cool pen. There was a picture of a coffee mug on the side of the box and I thought it was maybe a coffee stirrer. Seriously. I’m not an idiot, I promise.
It wasn’t until Jeremy looked through the booklet that comes with the box that explains what everything is that we had any clue. I couldn’t read it myself. Note to Loot Crate: Some people do not have stereoscopic vision… case in point, me. I almost vomited when I saw the 3D cover because my eyes cannot handle it and 3D glasses do not work on me.
The Walking Dead Loot Crate Variant (Issue #132) – $3.99
I’ve never seen nor read The Walking Dead comics, although I’ve heard some pretty good things about them. I’m not sure that we’ll even open the comic. The collectors in us is screaming “Leave it in the package!” so that’s probably where it will stay. I’m basing the price off of a standard comic. I’ve seen that these are going for about $20 right now on eBay however.
Slashes & Bites Loot Crate Temporary Tattoos – $4.99
Another Loot Crate exclusive, so the price is estimated. I’m glad they included something that can actually be utilized for Halloween. Very neat zombie bite and scratch temporary tattoos. Perhaps I will wear them with my Meg Griffin costume this year. Ha…
Smite: Thanatos & Jack the Reaper Skin – $10?
This is a code for some sort of skin within a new game called SMITE. I’ve never played it and I probably won’t. I’m unsure of its in-game value, although the codes are going from free up to $10 on eBay.
Exclusive Loot Crate October Pin and Toxic Waste Ultra Sour Candy (which is basically a Warhead candy).
