Happy Halloween readers!
So there’s this neat thing called 5 Fandom Fridays and it was started by The Nerdy Girly and Super Space Chick. The objective is to write a “top 5” post based on a pre-determined topic. For example here are some upcoming topics…
- November 7th: Comfort Foods That Always Make Me Feel Better
- November 14th: Smart Phone Apps I Cannot Live Without
- November 21st: Characters I Would Invite To My Thanksgiving Feast
- November 28th: Black Friday Purchases I Would Sacrifice A Night Of Sleep For
I don’t know if I will always participate, but I really like the idea of more scheduled blog posts and a fun way to help you get to know me. I hope that you will enjoy this as a reoccurring series and maybe you’ll find inspiration to participate yourselves!
The Halloween Candy I Always Hope For When Trick-Or-Treating
Okay, so I have a sort of strange story. When I was a little girl, I didn’t really care about the candy I received during Trick-Or-Treating. Sure, what kid doesn’t like candy… right? That part was nice, but Halloween was always about the experience.
One of my fondest memories was of a gentleman who lived a street over from me growing up just outside of New Orleans. Every year, he didn’t give me candy… he gave me a potato.
Seriously, a POTATO y’all.
To this day, I have no idea why he did this. But for some reason, every year without fail, he’d give me a potato and out of every childhood Halloween memory I have, it’s that one I am most fond of. I always looked forward to going to his house to see if I was going to get a potato.
I can’t remember a childhood Halloween where I didn’t get a potato up until the age of 11 when my Mother and I moved to Colorado. I imagine the gentleman has long since passed away as he was quite elderly.
I know, short story. But that’s it. That’s the “candy” I looked forward to most growing up. Now? Man I want some mini-Snickers and some Jolly Ranchers. Mmmm
